JULY BOOKSHARE 2016

Hello, Book Lovers!

We met on Thursday evening, July 28th, at the home of Liz Orton. Although we were fewer in numbers, we had a wonderful time visiting and discussing some wonderful books (and having some delicious apricot smoothies and Hobnob cookies from England.)  

Here is a list of the books that were reported on:

MARYANN STEVENS:

“The Fire of Home: A Powell Springs Novel” by Alexis Harrington (Maryann previously reported on “Home By Morning” and “Home By Nightfall” by the same author) The story takes place during WWI. Maryann highly recommends all three books.  

SARA TRIVEDI:

“I’ll Walk Alone” by Mary Higgins Clark. Excellent mystery. Very clean and well-written.

"The Washington Hypothesis: A Modern-Day Investigator Explores The Possible Connection Between The American Covenant, Latter-Day Temples and George Washington" by Timothy Ballard.  Very interesting book and well worth reading.

“Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker” by Jennifer Chiaverini. This is an historical novel about a slave woman who becomes Abraham Lincoln’s wife’s dressmaker.  Very interesting. Well annotated and fun book to read.

LIZ ORTON

“The Great Trouble: A Mystery of London, The Blue Death and a boy called Eel” By Deborah Hopkinson .  A Young Adult book concerning the great Cholera epidemic in London in the 1850’s.

GERI CHRISTENSEN

“The Enchantress of Crumbledown” by Donald Marshall. A fantasy and fairy-tale type book written for children but just as wonderful and enjoyable for adults, as well. The author was a BYU professor of Humanities for many years.
