Our last bookshare was held at the home of Beth Hedengren on Thursday, Febraury 25th.
Thanks to Beth, here is a list of the books that were discussed:
Liz Orton shared the two books about her mother's life which her sister has written. She wanted to inspire us to write our own histories!
She also told about Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian, a book about a child evacuated from London during the blitz.
Katharine Ponzcoch shared a young adult book: The War that Saved My Life, by Kimberly Bradley, which is also about a child evacuated during the blitz. In both books the child was saved from an abusive home through the evacuation.
Crystal Robison told about a beautiful YA book called Wonder, by RJ Palacio. Those of us who had read it agreed it should be required reading, especially for middle school students.
Beth shared a quirky Swedish book she read in translation: The 100-year-old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared, by Jonas Jonasson. This is laugh-out-loud funny, though the protagonists literally get away with theft and murder. Like Forest Gump the main character interacts with famous people and situations throughout his long life.
Our next gathering will be on Thursday, March 31st at Sara Trivedi's home. Mark it on your calendar. Until then, happy reading!
